Welcome to the 23rd Horticultural Association of Kenya (HAK) Annual Workshop, hosted this year at the icipe Thomas Odhiambo Campus, Mbita Point, Kenya! (Download the call) HAK aims to promote horticultural science in Kenya, through the generation, dissemination and exchange of horticultural information and technology among members. The Association has about 250 members drawn from universities, research organizations and industry. HAK workshops pay special attention to capacity building of young scientists and practitioners in the horticultural sector. We dedicate one day primarily for skills strengthening and farmer training. The icipe Thomas Odhiambo Campus, Mbita Point, is an ideal venue for our deliberations, not least due to its scenic and serene setting. In addition, the participants will be able to observe first hand field and laboratory research on icipe’s innovative one health activities, such as the integration of vegetables and edible insect farming into the Centre’s highly successful push-pull technology. Moreover, the host and neighbouring counties of the Campus have high horticultural potential, and there is an emerging academic and research community. We envisage the workshop leading to new partnerships and broader networks promoting more healthier, safer food!

Venue: The workshop will take place icipe Thomas Odhiambo Campus, Mbita and Technology (ICIPE), located in Mbita Point on the shores of Lake Victoria, western Kenya.
Format : The workshop shall be accomplished through oral presentations, panel discussions, poster presentations and advertisements from traders.

Instruction to Authors: Abstracts should be in English language. Should be in MS Word (.doc) or rich text format (.rtf) and not exceed 300 words. The style should be Times New Roman, font 12. The abstract should include the following: Introduction, methodology, results, discussion and conclusion. It should include the title, name(s) of author(s), affiliation and mailing address. The abstract should contain the aim(s), methodology, results, discussion and conclusion. They should include the title, the name(s) of the author(s), affiliation, mailing address, e-mail address and telephone number(s). Authors should state the thematic area and indicate their preference for oral or poster presentation. The closing date for receiving revised abstracts shall be October 20th, 2023.
African Journal of Horticultural Sciences: Full papers submitted for the workshop shall be considered for publication in the African Journal of Horticultural Science.
